Tuta absoluta
Tuta absoluta is a highly invasive and destructive moth pest originating from South America, now widespread across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. Its larvae are the damaging stage, feeding inside leaves, stems, and fruit, creating characteristic mines and galleries. Left unmanaged, it can cause yield losses of 80–100% in tomato crops, making it one of the most economically significant tomato pests worldwide.
Whitefly
Whiteflies are small, sap-sucking insects that feed on plant phloem, causing direct feeding damage and excreting honeydew that promotes sooty mold growth. Beyond direct damage, whiteflies are notorious as vectors of numerous plant viruses (e.g., Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus), making them one of the most economically damaging pests in vegetable and ornamental production worldwide. They thrive in warm climates and greenhouse environments, reproducing rapidly and developing resistance to insecticides easily.
